The mission of the Auburn University Museum of Natural History is to conduct biodiversity research, preserve and document our region and planet’s biodiversity, and to lead and promote activities related to natural history education and outreach for Auburn University and all citizens of the state of Alabama.
Chewacla State Park's 696 scenic acres offer plenty of rest, relaxation and recreation, just a short drive from the Auburn-Opelika area. Facilities include a 26-acre lake, swimming area, playground, a modern campground, picnic areas with tables, grills and shelters, cabins, hiking and mountain biking trails.
Ham Wilson Livestock Arena is a multi-use facility under the management of the Department of Animal Sciences. While the livestock shows have moved to other facilities near campus, the building is still used for classes, extension programs and special events.
Lake Wilmore Trail is a 1.8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Auburn, Alabama that offers the chance to see wildlife. The trail is good for all skill levels and primarily used for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Margie Piper Bailey Park is used for Youth Football, soccer and other special events. The fields were donated to the city by the Bailey Construction Company and are used by the city, as well as, Wrights Mill Road Elementary School. Limited parking is available.
Mary Olive Thomas Demonstration Forest. Located along Moore’s Mill Road just east of Auburn, Alabama, the Mary Olive Thomas (MOT) Demonstration Forest is a 400 acre forest that is used to show landowners forest and wildlife management practices that could be used to enhance the value of their land.
Pebble Hill Pebble Hill, also known as the Scott-Yarbrough House, is an 1847 antebellum cottage in Auburn, Alabama listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It currently serves as the home of the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University.
The renovations at Sam Harris Park, 850 Foster Street in Auburn, were completed on June 1, 2017. Sam Harris Park now features the City of Auburn Parks and Recreation first “poured in place” accessible playground available for children and adults with disabilities.
