Canvey Wick is a 93.2 hectare Site of Special Scientific Interest at the south-west corner of Canvey Island in Essex. It is owned by the Land Trust and managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Buglife. The site was formerly an oil refinery, and has been transformed into an area of grazing marsh.
Gruffalo Trail Come and see the original Gruffalo Trail - a self-led trail around the woods, searching for carvings of the Gruffalo characters. Gruffalo Activity Maps are available from the Countryside Centre, at a cost of 50p. The countryside centre offers some unique gifts and books, a separate education room, refreshments and displays.
Hanningfield Reservoir is a 402.9 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest between Billericay and Chelmsford in Essex. It is owned by Essex and Suffolk Water and run by them in conjunction with the Essex Wildlife Trust. The reservoir is covered by a Bird Sanctuary Order.
Norsey Wood is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Local Nature Reserve, as an ancient coppice woodland with a wide variety of plants and animals, largely as a result of the varied geology, history and management of the site.

The Northlands Park Child and Family Wellbeing Hub is part of the new Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service which Barnardo's are providing for Essex County Council in partnership with Virgin Care.
Bowers Marsh is between Pitsea station and Benfleet station where there are regular services from Shoeburyness and London Fenchurch Street. From the station exit, turn right at the end of Station Approach and then right down Brackendale Avenue, following the public footpath alongside the railway line until you turn right Church Road.
Get your map from the Countryside Centre in Thorndon North - opens at 9.30am - for 50p. Please keep dogs on a lead and wear wellies! Open from 9:30am, the Countryside Centre is jointly owned and managed by Essex Wildlife Trust. The shop sells cards, gifts, jams, wildlife books, pocket-money toys and Gruffalo-themed merchandise.
Thorndon North Thorndon has 500 acres of beautiful woods and parkland with meadows and ponds. We have marked trails, horse/cycle routes and orienteering courses. Cycle hire is also available on site. It's an ideal place for family visits as well as spotting wildlife.
