Lying in the heart of the city of Chico, Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park stands as a tangible link to the history and legacy of John and Annie Bidwell, two of California’s most significant historical figures. The Bidwells act as a common thread linking stories of California’s prehistory to the turn of the 20th Century.
Bidwell Park caters to many recreational past times. For those interested in swimming, the Sycamore Pool, located at the One-Mile Recreation Area, is an uncommon swimming experience, being a concrete pool built around Big Chico Creek.

The Five Mile Recreation Area is a great place for a picnic, playing in Big Chico Creek, or just enjoying general outdoor fun. Five Mile has many large Sycamore and Valley Oak trees providing shade on the grassy picnic areas. There are eight picnic tables, 3 barbecues, a drinking fountain, and restrooms at Five Mile.

The park has a really nice outdoor basketball court, a big open field, disc golf baskets, lighted walking paths, sheltered picnic and barbecue areas, restrooms, a playground for children aged 2-5, and a playground for kids aged 5-12 years old.

The Stansbury Home is a Victorian home built by Dr. Oscar Stansbury in 1883. The home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 and in 1991 was listed as supporting the South Campus Historic District. While the home is now the property of the City of Chico, the Stansbury Home Preservation Association helps to fund and maintain the 19th century historic residence.
Teichert Ponds is a city of Chico owned wetland, an oasis for wildlife in the midst of the City’s urban development. The 30-acre site supports a dense riparian overstory of cottonwoods, valley oaks and willow. Much of the site’s lush understory is invasive exotic species, such as pyracantha and blackberry.
