(A historical marker located in Chino in San Bernardino County, California.) Near this spot once stood the home of Isaac Williams, first American settler in this valley, about which on September 26-27 1846, was fought the first important engagement in California of the war with Mexico.
The Chino Creek Wetlands and Educational Park is located adjacent to the Inland Empire Utilities Agency Headquarters in Chino. The Park is owned and maintained by the Inland Empire Utilities Agency. The 22 acre park opened to the public in 2007 and was partially funded by a state grant from the State Water Resources Control Board.
In addition, Coal Canyon may provide one of the last suitable deer migration routes between the Santa Ana Mountains and the adjacent Chino Hills. Don Gaspar de Portola Statue The 9-foot statue was sculpted by Spanish artist Josep Maria Subirachs and his associate, Francesc Carulla. It was given to the State of California by the autonomous region of Catalonia in Spain in 1988.
Gilman Peak (elevation 1,685) is the second highest point in Chino Hills State Park. A popular approach is the seven-mile round trip route from Carbon Canyon (see here for more info). The southern approach, from Rim Crest in Yorba Linda, is shorter – but steeper.
The trail consists of moderate terrain with easy changes in elevation and is well shaded. The loop travels the hillside valley behind the Diamond Valley Estates community. Hikers will enjoy peaceful scenery, Oak Grove trees, and partial views of the Chino Valley.
Prado Dam is an earth-fill dam across the Santa Ana River at the Chino Hills near Corona, California in Riverside County with the resulting impounded water creating Prado Flood Control Basin reservoir. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the dam in Lower Santa Ana River Canyon.
Prado Regional Park is a one-stop recreational paradise located in the Chino Valley basin where San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles Counties connect. The name Prado is derived from California’s early Spanish days when the countryside was known as a “prado” or meadow.

The Summitridge Park trail entrance can be found next to the Diamond Bar Center. Don't park at the small lot next to the Summitridge Park sign, but go up the hill towards the Diamond Bar Center building and park at their lot (unless you want to do some extra hiking). Once you park, you can already see the beginning of the trail near the sidewalk.
SYCAMORE (Platanus racemosa) Another tree species you will see a lot of in the Park is the sycamore. Known as “Aliso” in Spanish, Park visitors will see a lot of sycamore trees in CHSP’s Aliso Canyon. These trees are easily viewed from Bane Canyon road, along the Chino Hills entrance to the Park.
Since the Telegraph Canyon Trail is also a service road for the utility easements running through the Park, it is much like walking down a small country road in rural America. The fact that the Telegraph Canyon Trail is a service road really is not a negative.
