Aoba Park Picnic Grounds (Campground) is at the southern end of central Chitose City, only 5km from Sapporo International Airport. If you’re arriving to or leaving Hokkaido by air with a bike, it would be a nice spot to stay the night after or before a flight. Or, just for a nice get away in the Sapporo region.
The town is 8 km from Chitose (and the New Chitose Airport), and to the north is Kitahiroshima City. 26 km north of Eniwa is Sapporo, the largest city and prefectural capital of Hokkaido. All of these cities are connected by the Chitose Line railway and by the Japan National Route 36.

National Highway 276 runs along the southern bank, connecting the lake with Tomakomai and Date. Highway 453 runs from the eastern and northern parts of the lake to Sapporo. City bus routes from Chitose lead to the lake. Hokkaidō-Chūō buses connect Shikotsu-ko with Chitose Station and New Chitose Airport.
Eniwa has five public parks: Eniwa Park, Nakajima Park, Furusato Park, Megumino Central Park and Technopark Central Park. The parks are mostly around central and southern Eniwa. The largest, Eniwa Park, is 411,000m². In addition, the land around the banks of the Izari River is considered urban open space. Parks in Eniwa mostly consist of open spaces and woodland, though several feature sporting facilities, such as Nakajima Park's jogging track.
Japan Railways (JR) operates a train from Sapporo Park Hotel to Sapporo Airport (CTS) every 30 minutes. Tickets cost $7 - $10 and the journey takes 37 min. Alternatively, Chuo Bus operates a bus from Sapporo Park Hotel to Sapporo Airport (CTS) every 4 hours.
Lake Shikotsu, Japan’s second-deepest lake at 363m at the deepest point, is around 1 hour from Sapporo and 40 minutes from Shin-Chitose Airport. On the shore of this mysterious and almost entirely untouched lake, you can find Lake Shikotsu Hot Springs.
Chitose River, which rises in Shikotsu-Lake National Park, is a birthplace of modern artificial incubation and releasing business of salmon and trout in Japan. The aquarium which located near by Chitose river shows the fishes with a focus on the family salmonidae.

Chitose is one of the gateways to the Shikotsu-Toya National Park, Lake Shikotsu and Mount Tarumae. The city is bounded by Eniwa in the north and by Tomakomai in the south. Origin of the name. In the Ainu language, Chitose was originally called shikot, meaning big depression or hollow, like Lake Shikotsu which is a caldera lake.
