While Donetsk is the administrative centre of the Donetsk Oblast , the city is the capital of the Donetsk City Municipality. However, Donetsk is a city of oblast subordinance, thus being subject directly to the oblast authorities rather to the Donetsk City Municipality housed in the city itself. Since 7 April 2014 Donetsk is de facto governed by the Donetsk People's Republic, even though it has only been recognized by the Republic of South Ossetia as of October 2014.
Central Park of Culture and Leisure. Central Park of Culture and Leisure named after Shcherbakov is a recreation park in Donetsk. It is located in Voroshylovskyi Raion, in the west it matches with stadium Shakhtar, and in the north there is the Second city pond. Park was open in 1932.
The museum was founded September 23, 1939 as the Museum of Fine Arts, in 1941 ceased to exist due to the beginning of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, since 1958 - the department of fine art of the Stalin museum of local lore, 1960 - Stalin's art gallery, 1965 year - Donetsk Art Museum.
Donetsk - the birthplace of blacksmithing and the first among the cities of the former USSR, which took the international organization blacksmiths "Ring Cities blacksmiths." Park of forged sculptures - a monument to all masters blacksmithing in Donetsk and throughout Ukraine.
Lenin Komsomol park (Ukrainian: Парк культури і відпочинку ім. Ленінського комсомолу) is a popular recreation area in Donetsk. It was considered back in 1952, when Central Scherbakov Park of Culture and Leisure could no more fully address the city needs because "Shakhtar" stadium was built on its territory.
The monument to great Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko is located in the Shevchenko Park in front of the Red building of the Kiev national Taras Shevchenko University. The monument was installed to honor the 125th anniversary of Shevchenko’s birthday and is now one of the symbols of modern Kiev.
Donetsk teachers have appealed to their countrymen to help free them from terrorist militants. They rallied on the Donetsk Bridge with Ukrainian flags in their hands. The teachers point out that what is happening now in Donetsk is an absolute outrage.
