The memorial, by Henry Charles Fehr, was unveiled in 1920. It is in the form of a granite memorial which is surmounted by bronze statue, the ‘Angel of Victory’, holding a laurel wreath in the left hand and a raised inverted sword in the right (TV6198 : The Angel of Victory, Eastbourne War Memorial). There are bronze plaques to north and south sides.
Turn right onto seafront and follow road past the Pier. The Western Lawns are located just after the Wish Tower. Pay and display on street parking on the seafront and Wish Tower Car Park. Some free on-street parking avaiklable away from the seafront. Eastbourne railway station is just 10 minutes walk to seafront.
The Wish Tower is a historic Martello Tower built to protect the UK from possible invasion by Napoleon. It's a fascinating structure and free tours are available via our website. The Tower is nothing to do with the cafe next door, called the Western View and run by the local council.
