It was built in 1609 by Ekmekcizade Ahmet Pasa who was the chief treasurer, on the order of Ahmet I. The architect of the Caravanserai is Chief Architect Sedefkar Mehmet Aga. It is known that Architect Haci Saban from Edirne helped him. The Caravanserai was build by the European Union funds. The 75% of the total budget was covered by European Union and 25% of it covered by Edirne Special Provincial Administration.
