The landscape dips and rises at Campton Forest Preserve, with wooded hilltops affording lovely views, and a mix of marsh and prairie in the low areas. The preserve is undergoing constant land additions, having begun in 1972 with 166 acres, follwed by acquisitions of 95 acres. In 1976, another 18 acres were added.

Riley's Run Dog Park The Dog Park is located within Riley's Run Park at 650 Lambert Lane (at the intersections of Lambert Lane and Thornbury Road) in the Castle Creek Subdivision. It is the Bartlett Park District's only dog park with a fenced in enclosure where dogs with permits may run off-leash under the supervision of their owner.

An oak tree at Tekakwitha dates to 1864 and links us to its ancestors’ past on the edge of the prairie. On the lee side of the Fox River, the area now known as Tekakwitha Woods was protected from the heat of the prairie fires and was likely forested for thousands of years.
The riverfront property includes a fishing area, nature trails, the Fox River Bike Path and parking for users. Trout park has one rentable shelter, located near the Route 25 entrance, which holds approx. 100 people. This shelter is equipped with electricity. Once a private fishing camp, this preserve shares the popularity of all our river properties. Its natural features were mostly destroyed long ago. The primary function was a gravel pit to the west with the railroad bridge linking the two sides of the river. Sadly, the gravel pit was converted to a dump by the city of Elgin.
