When the Anne Kolb Nature Center opened on February 10, 1996, it was the culmination of a lengthy process that involved many years of planning and development. Three years and three months later, on March 13, 1982, the district opened C.B. Smith Park to the public. When the state legislature dissolved the South Broward Park District in 1988, the park became a regional park in the Broward County Parks and Recreation Division.
Castaway Island offers two interactive water playgrounds: one for smaller children, with climbing features and a small slide, the other with features more suitable for older children, including buckets that regularly fill with water and dump it out onto the playground below. In 2007, the water park's original sand-bottom lagoon was replaced with a zero-entry, hard-bottom Swim Lagoon with a waterfall at one end. The aquatics complex also includes a marina with boat rentals.
The park is now the largest in the long-underserved central Broward County area and is designed to serve seven of the county's 31 municipalities: along with Lauderhill, Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale Lakes, Oakland Park, Plantation, Sunrise, and Wilton Manors.
Charnow Park has been totally transformed with four new picnic pavilions, a new entertainment pavilion and pergola-shaded seating areas. Two new playgrounds for different age groups offer innovative play equipment with an artificial soft grass safety surface.
About Colohatchee Park Colohatchee Park is a 8.5 acre community park, which includes 7 acres of mangrove preserve. This mangrove preserve offers nature enthusiasts a great view of a variety of species of mangroves and the animals that live in this natural habitat.

Tucked away on the west side of US1 lies Greynolds Park. Once the site of a rock quarry, Greynolds Park is now a 249-acre park containing mangroves and a hardwood hammock, which is one of the last well-protected natural areas of northern Miami-Dade. On the east side runs the Oleta River, used by Tequesta Indians for transportation in order to trade with early settlers. Admission to the park is $6 per car, cash only.
