Jofu Falls (常布の滝) is one of 100 best waterfalls in Japan. It is located in Kusatsu, Gunma Prefecture. The waterfalls is about 40m high and very unique with red rocks surrounded. It was used to called secret waterfalls because it was located deep side of Mt. Shirane.
One of these is the Kataoka Tsurutaro Art Museum, dedicated to the work of (you guessed) Kataoka Tsurutaro, an actor, comedian and former professional boxer, who's also a talented painter. Just down the hill from the Kusatsu Hotel and Hotel Ohruri, it's a pleasant place to spend a peaceful hour admiring his artworks.

What is Manza Onsen? Manza Onsen Hot Spring is located 1800m above sea level and is a Takayama Onsenkyu (Alpine hot spring villiage), surrounded by greenery. 5.4 million liters of rich hot spring water spouts out daily. The characteristic of the acidic hydrogen sulfide spring is the cloudy and yellow tint.
From the Manza/Kazawaguchi Station of the JR, take the Seibu Kogen Bus via Manza Onsen toward Kusatsu Onsen (45 mintes), get off at the Manza Prince Hotel-mae stop. By car, it is a 1 hour 30 minute drive from "Usuikauizawa IC" interchange or "Uedasugadaira IC" interchange on the Joshinetsu Expressway.
Today, I headed to check out the colors along the national route 292 in the section between Yamanouchi not far from the popular Jigokudani Monkey Park all the way to the onsen town of Kusatsu. The route stretches across the prefectures of Nagano and Gunma, passing through an elevation of around 2000 meters, winding round mountains, marshlands and Mount Shirane, an active volcano.
Sainokawara Park (西の河原公園, Sainokawara Kōen) covers a valley not far from Kusatsu town center, where several hot spring sources and a large outdoor bath are located. Walking trails around the upper part of the park lead through the nice natural landscapes.
JR passes are not valid on the buses between Karuizawa and Kusatsu. By bus. There are multiple direct JR highway buses from Tokyo (Shinjuku JR Highway Bus Terminal) to Kusatsu per day. The one way trip costs around 3500 yen and takes about four hours. JR passes are not valid on these buses. Above fees and schedules are subject to change.

What is Yugama Crater Lake? Located at the summit of Shirane Mountain (altitude 2160m), Yugama Crater Lake is 30m in depth, 300m in diameter. In addition to the emerald green lake, it is popular for its white rock surface which looks like the moon's surface.
