Ton Duc Thang, (born Aug. 19, 1888, Long Xuyen province, Vietnam—died March 30, 1980, Hanoi), Communist leader who succeeded Ho Chi Minh as president of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1969 and from 1976 was president of the reunited Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
