In 1884, African American students, males and females, were allowed to attend school. The current structure was built in 1917 and opened as the new school for African American students in 1918.
Historic Cannonsburgh Village represents approximately 100 years of early Tennessee life from the 1830s to the 1930s. Within the village is a gristmill, school house, a telephone operator's house, the University House, the Leeman House, a museum, a caboose, the Wedding Chapel, a doctor's office, a general store, a blacksmith's shop, a well, and other points of pioneering interest.

The Earth Experience, the Middle Tennessee Museum of Natural History, is the first natural history museum in Middle Tennessee. The museum has displays from all over the world but has a very large number of items from Tennessee. Come see our dinosaurs, fossils, gems, minerals, rocks and archeological relics.
This is definitely an abandoned area. There's caution tape blocking the road to where you used to park before the trail, but you can still park at the boat ramp and walk there. At one point in time, there were big boulders blocking the trail (as a deterrent), but someone with a truck or 4 wheeler has dragged 2 of the rocks out of the way.
Fortress Rosecrans is located in Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro, around 4.5 miles south of Stones River Battlefield. From the battlefield, head south along Old Nashville Highway, take North Thompson Lane and then take Murfreesboro Road, turning right after around 2.6 miles into New Salem Road.
The Gateway Island is an ideal venue for picnics, wedding ceremonies and receptions, photography sessions, birthday parties, and other celebrations. The Gateway Island Trail, part of the Murfreesboro Greenway System, provides a well-lit route for walkers and runners and is frequently used by organizations for charity walks and races.
At the corner of Searcy Street and Medical Center Parkway is a trailhead that offers parking for 15 cars. Provided at this site is a boat ramp for small craft. Restrooms and a water fountain are available. A short walk gives the visitor a view of the dam at Ramsom’s Mill.
Murfree Spring Wetlands is a 25-acre city park under the jurisdiction of the City of Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department. It is located at the corner of Maney and Broad streets. Walking trails and raised boardwalks wind through the wetlands, while the plaza area boasts an amphitheater and water features.
Oaklands Park Oaklands Park is a 31-acre neighborhood park and historic site located at the corner of N. Maney and Roberts St. Oaklands Mansion National Historic Site ; Maney Spring area, nature trail ; Picnic shelter with six tables ; Playground; Restrooms; Aboretum- The Trail of Trees was planted with trees that are indigenous accross Tennessee.
