In 1884, African American students, males and females, were allowed to attend school. The current structure was built in 1917 and opened as the new school for African American students in 1918.
Historic Cannonsburgh Village represents approximately 100 years of early Tennessee life from the 1830s to the 1930s. Within the village is a gristmill, school house, a telephone operator's house, the University House, the Leeman House, a museum, a caboose, the Wedding Chapel, a doctor's office, a general store, a blacksmith's shop, a well, and other points of pioneering interest.

This is definitely an abandoned area. There's caution tape blocking the road to where you used to park before the trail, but you can still park at the boat ramp and walk there. At one point in time, there were big boulders blocking the trail (as a deterrent), but someone with a truck or 4 wheeler has dragged 2 of the rocks out of the way.

Fortress Rosecrans is located in Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro, around 4.5 miles south of Stones River Battlefield. From the battlefield, head south along Old Nashville Highway, take North Thompson Lane and then take Murfreesboro Road, turning right after around 2.6 miles into New Salem Road.
