The precipitous cliff on the Pacific Ocean coast of Muroran City stands at about 100m and goes on for a length of 14km. It’s known as a splendid scenic spot with Cape Chikyu also being such a spot. Having a panoramic view of the horizon from the Cape Chikyu Observatory allows visitors to get a feel for the roundness of the Earth.
This park, created as a centennial memorial for the city of Sapporo, is located on a small hill, surrounded by natural forest. There is an observatory offering a breathtaking view of the whole of Sapporo, and it is a popular spot for looking out at the night scenery.
The Muroran Port is located on the eastern tip of Hokkaido's Uchiura Bay. From old times it has been known as a fine natural harbor, and with the opening of the port in 1872, it has played an important role in Hokkaido's overall development as a strategic point for sea and ground traffic and as an industrial base to support central Hokkaido.
Since then, Muroran has been developing as an important transportation hub and a center of the steel industry. Hakucho Bridge spans the Port of Muroran and is the largest suspension bridge in eastern Japan. Hakucho means swan. Itanki Beach is a popular hang out for swimming and surfing during the summer months.
