The Ashio Copper Mine, Ashio, Tochigi prefecture, Japan, became very significant from the end of the 19th century to the mid-20th century. It was the site of major pollution in the 1880s and the scene of the 1907 miners riots. During World War Two the mine was worked by POW slave labour in dreadful conditions.

Nasu Teddy Bear Museum TheNasu Teddy Bear Museum exhibits teddy bears created by 100 artists from all over the world in order to further cultivate teddy bear culture. The museum building is modeled after a British manor house and is themed as a teddy bear studio.
Opposite Sanbutsudo stands the temple's treasure house with Buddhist and Tokugawa related exhibits. Shoyoen, a small Japanese style garden, is located next behind the treasure house. The garden is a popular autumn leaf spot with its many maple trees standing photogenically around its central pond.

This museum was opened in 1979 to show the history and mining operations of Oya stone. The museum is situated in an unusual setting of carved hills, whose arches and holes were formed in the search for the finest quality stone. The modern museum building contains various items related to Oya, the stone quarries, and their history.
