Anraku-ji is a Buddhist temple of the Sōtō school in Bessho Onsen, Ueda, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It is the oldest Zen temple in Nagano Prefecture. The main hall has a thatched roof and enshrines an image of Sakyamuni flanked by Manjusri and Samantabhadra as principal object of worship. Anraku-ji is best known for having the only extant octagonal pagoda in Japan.

Ueda Castle (上田城, Ueda-jō) is a Japanese castle located in Ueda, northern Nagano Prefecture, Japan. At the end of the Edo period, Ueda Castle was home to a junior branch of the Matsudaira clan, daimyō of Ueda Domain, but the castle is better known for its association with the Sengoku period Sanada clan.
Ueda Castle was originally built by Sanada Masayuki, a samurai leader known throughout Japan. The castle is known to have sustained attacks by the Tokugawa army not once, but twice. A park has been developed around the castle remains.
