Uman is a city located at the confluence of the Kamenka and Umanka rivers in the Cherkasy region of Ukraine, halfway from Kyiv to Odessa, the administrative center of the Uman district. It is a popular tourist center, known primarily due to one of the best park complexes in Ukraine.
Imen, Human (Yiddish Transliteration), Умань (Ukrainian), Умань – Uman’ (Russian) Uman is a historical city in Cherkassy region. The estimated population is 86.911 (as of 2010). In XIX – beginning of XX century it was center of Uman Yezd of Kiev Gubernia. How It Started. A Jewish community appeared in Uman in the early 18th century.
Sofievsky Park in Uman is also decorated with the alleys (Main, Lower, English, Elysian Fields), pavilions (like, Phasannik pavilion of 1812), grottoes (Venus, Apollo, Thetis, Nutlet, Elbow, Western), rocks, sculptures, statues of the Gods – Hermes, Amorа, Venus, Euripides poet (2-meter statue which is located at that place since 1800), busts of Plato, Aristotle, Homer and Socrates.
