The Apostle Peter, also known as Saint Peter, and Cephas—original name Simeon son of Jonah—was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus.
Tradition locates his burial place where the Basilica of Saint Peter was later built, directly beneath the Basilica's high altar.
