Facts about Seas

The ocean formed billions of years ago. Over vast periods of time, our primitive oceans formed. Water remained a gas until the Earth cooled below 212 degrees Fahrenheit . At this time, about 3.8 billion years ago, the water condensed into rain which filled the basins that are now our oceans.

Before modern reckoning, the term "Seven Seas" has been used to refer to seven of the largest bodies of water in the world:the Pacific Ocean.the Atlantic Ocean.the Indian Ocean.the Arctic Ocean.the Mediterranean Sea.the Caribbean Sea.the Gulf of Mexico.

Africa is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, both the Suez Canal and the Red Sea along the Sinai Peninsula to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the east and southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.Sep 19, 2016
