What does moonshine taste like compared to vodka?

Haven't had illegal mooneshine, but have had highly distilled corn whisky of the same strength. It is typically mashed from corn. Vodka is mashed from potatoes, rye, wheat or sorghum. Vodka has a milder taste. I think moonshine smells closer to turpentine than it does to vodka. read more

The moonshine they sell in liquor stores isn’t true moonshine although it’s generally a corn based spirit similar to vodka. The moonshine in stores tends to be closer in percentage to 40% which is average for hard liquor and tastes a lot like vodka unless there’s additional flavourings as a part of it. read more

A really bad moonshine can be compare to taste of REALLY cheap vodka mixed with some pure alcohol to increase proof. However moonshine can be improved dramatically by distilling it more then once, and filtering(try Brita water filter for instance). read more
