Animals destined for slaughter are reconfigured as meat long before they enter the slaughterhouse. This makes what happens in a slaughterhouse palatable - for workers and for general society too. The one I applied for a job at uses a hypobaric chamber which, basically, sucks every molecule of air out their bodies before they even realise what's happening. Very fast, very humane. They're unconscious and, for all intents and purposes, dead before their throats are stuck. read more
