If they weren't the easternmost and southernmost countries, Australia and New Zealand would be added but it seems odd to lump them into the 'West'. You might add Russia, but many wouldn't, or the Ukraine but most wouldn't or Turkey but few would. read more

Western countries is just an indirect way of saying "countries that were heavily influenced by European culture." The Americas, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, and Europe (Western, Northern and Southern Europe) are all apart of the Western world. read more
