Both cockatiels and budgies are desert-adapted birds. I'm convinced that some of their success as companion and aviary birds is due to the fact that they can survive under less than ideal situations. Overall, I find cockatiels more hand tame than budgies, but unlike the author, I certainly do not find them to be passive. Mine are confident, strong flyers, territorial, messy, noisy and curious. i think a cockatiel is ok, but they are definately louder than a budgie. Also, just because your sister likes her doesnt mean you should give her away. I'm sure your sister is a responsible girl, capable of taking care of your budgie. read more

You're thinking of parakeets for the "more sit and chat than fiddlers" There's a big difference between American budgies and English Budgies. American Budgies are smaller, more active, and less cuddly. English Budgies are a little bigger and the males can be great talkers too. read more
