More than making the pilot obsolete, computers and automation are helping reduce the workload, thus helping the pilot make better decisions, have more information about different situations, and being able to handle failures or emergencies in a better manner. read more

However, should that ever come to pass, then yes, pilots may become obsolete. But only if pilots choose to view flying through the lenses of nostalgia and insist that it's only about the"stick-and-rudder" and make no serious attempts to expand what it means to be a pilot. read more
