Range: The Cottonmouth is more southern, and the Copperhead range is more eastern and extends further north. Both are found primarily in water areas - in the south, Cottonmouth just love swamps, more than big, clear lakes. Copperheads are more likely to be found on dry land, but Cottonmouth really stick to water. read more

The cottonmouth is much more venomous than the copperhead. The Cottonmouth is just venomous enough to kill a person, making it more dangerous. People can usually survive Copperhead bites, but with extreme tissue loss and damage due to its venom. read more
