Basically all dolphins are whales, but not all whales are dolphins. This is because whales are separated into baleen whales (that have baleen plates, and generally larger) and toothed whales (that have teeth, and generally smaller than baleen whales). Sperm whales are also toothed whales, but they grow to a size that is larger than orcas. Dolphin is a general term for smaller toothed whales. read more
