The NHL has many teams and also has the salary cap. This does not help Montreal who also has problems developing young players and getting good players from trades so i dont think they will be an elite team soon. read more

One of the biggest Habs biggest rivalry's was the Quebec Nordiques (moved 1995). This is because it was pairing the 2 biggest cities in Quebec (Montreal and Quebec City), different ideas (Montreal was considered against succession, and Quebec city was considered for it). It has been a terrible season for fans of the Montreal Canadiens. Change is coming in Montreal. It is not the change in management that many had hoped for.
