Most vampires and monsters are an allegory for deeper fears. Whether we are describing the strigoi from Romanian folklore, or the various incarnations of Dracula in literature and film, they both mean something. If True Blood's vampires are now Jews in Nazi Germany or African Americans in the pre-civil rights South, that still doesn't address the underlying problem with the comparison.
