Are white sweet potatoes the same as orange ones?

Sweet potatoes are native to the tropical regions of the Americas, and are related to potatoes native to the Andes of South America. Yams are native to Africa and Asia. Sweet potatoes are higher in sugars, calcium, sodium, Vitamin A, and Beta-carotene; Yams have much higher potassium content. read more

Sweet potatoes come in a variety of colors, including those with white, yellow, orange or purple flesh. While white sweet potatoes are slightly less sweet than orange ones, they are no russets or yukon golds. We ate ours roasted in the oven and topped with some butter, salt, and brown sugar (only one one side, though, so we could do a clean, objective taste test). read more
