Why are sparrows so fearful of human beings?

When I saw this question I remembered two posts I saw in Facebook, One a little old and another recently. Sparrows are usually very shy birds. No one can ever see a sparrow resting or preening . They are always at the edge and quick to fly away . They rarely bond with humans. read more

Birds don't abandon their young ones or their nest easily. I believe these stories are told to stop children from hurting birds. Human kids can be cruel to them unknowingly. Also sparrows are wild birds why will they be friendly to humans (I hope no one compares sparrows to street dogs because dogs are domesticated and are not afraid of us). read more

One thing I have noticed, with local birds: some species seem to be able to recognise specific human beings, and react accordingly, after some time of familiarisation. This is known to be true of crows, but it seems like other birds have the same knack. read more
