The currently shipping version of the MacBook Air (as of 9/2/16) uses a magnet to attach the MagSafe 2 power connector to the computer's power port. So obviously, that doesn't hurt it. Unfortunately, the magnet damaged the data on internal hard disk, which is located near the trackpad inside your MacBook Pro. Data on standard Hard Disks is stored on the disk using patterns of magnetization. read more
