Be it maltese or rotweiller please do not indulge in such acts. Dogs are tereitorial animals. Do not show hostility towards strays. Strays bark when they see a new dog in the area. It is a matter of weeks before they get used to the new dog. Carry a stick with you but do not hit the strays. Use it to keep safe distance from other dogs.
