Trip Update: I climbed Shasta again recently on July 17, via Brewer Creek Trailhead. You absolutely need crampons. The first time I climbed Shasta was without crampons (see below), and this time I brought both crampons and an ice axe. read more

It's a slim chance that something "bad" will happen to you, but you don't want to "f#$ck with Nature" in these fairly extreme conditions - an experienced climber died up on Shasta in 2010 so anything can happen. There's a chance i'll be going up Shasta again in the next few weeks, in which case i'll update the post on the snow conditions. read more
