Can birds eat oats?

Best Answers

I spilled an entire box of Quaker's Oatmeal, the real thing, not flavored or sugared etc. Rather than throw it away, I was hoping I could leave it out for the birds. Mostly we have here sparrows and mourning doves, and an occasional cardinal (after all it is the state bird!). Will they eat it and will they like it??? read more

Uncooked oatmeal is an excellent source of nutrition for birds, and it also helps you get rid of the oatmeal you are not going to eat. While you can simply scatter uncooked oatmeal on the ground, take the time to put it into a suet cake, which gives birds a fatty treat in the winter. read more

I don't think the birds would eat the oats. Maybe the bunnies would but I doubt that, too. I would not use old oats because I would be worried about bugs getting in them. read more
