The Google Maps phone app does have an offline mode. Open the app while you’re online, then tap the menu (the three horizontal lines at the upper left). One of the choices is “Offline areas”. Select it, then follow the instructions to download maps of an area so you can use them without an Internet connection. read more

Google Maps offline navigation and search coming soon. As I said before, there are currently some drawbacks when it comes to using Google Maps without an internet connection.
