Groupers are excellent table fare and can be found in all levels of the water column, commonly near structure. Groupers eat crustaceans, other fish, octopuses and young sea turtles. Very few fish either seawater or freshwater can live in muddy water as a constant. Even catfish who are bottom feeders would problems in constantly muddy water. The release of the grouper into muddy water does not mean the fish stayed there. read more

Shenzhen News in China reported that a 1.8-m grouper swallowed a 1.0-m whitetip reef shark at the Fuzhou Sea World aquarium. In September 2010, a Costa Rican newspaper reported a 2.3-m (7.5-ft) grouper in Cieneguita, Limón. The weight of the fish was 250 kg (550 lb) and it was lured using one kilogram of bait. read more
