Ketosis occurs when glucose is not getting into the cells because of lack of insulin. The hungry cells signal for emergency food and ketones are produced. Since the insulin is not being utilized by the cells, and it backs up into the blood--> hyperglycemia. Hypoglycemia does not relate to ketosis. read more
