In the US most actuaries enter the profession through on-the-job training programs, although someone with a degree in actuarial science would have a leg up getting hired into such a program. There is no technical reason you can't change from accounting to actuarial work. read more

You would still get a degree in accounting, but you can take actuarial science-oriented classes at a lot of universities that don't offer it as a major. Majoring in accounting alone will not give you everything you need to ace the actuary exams, but you can certainly major in accounting and become an actuary. read more
