Can I use valves from flugelhorn, and put them on the trumpet?

Best Answers

The valves are designed for each model of horn and have very specific dimensions. The diameter of the piston, the size and placement of the holes, the way the spring engages, and the cork/rubber/felt travel limits have to be placed perfectly for the air and sound to flow. read more

The flugelhorn has a wider bore than the trumpet and would therefore most likely have wider valves. In the unlikely event that you were able to put a flugelhorn piston into a trumpet cylinder, you would be unlikely to get it back out again. Furthermore, an instrument with wider tubing will also have wider spacing between the tubes. read more

It's unlikely that even a valve from a different brand of trumpet would work interchangeably. A flugelhorn is a different instrument entirely, other than being in the same range. read more

Unless your flugelhorn has been custom modified by having a trumpet mouthpiece receiver grafted onto its leadpipe, a trumpet mouthpiece will not even properly fit into a flugelhorn. Trumpet mouthpiece shanks are not at all the same as flugelhorn mouthpiece shanks. read more
