Can Matter turn into Dark Matter or vice versa?

Best Answers

Well this is a bit subtle. Any type of particle can be created with its anti-particle. Dark matter may or may not be its own anti-particle. However, what we call matter is not it's own anti-particle. So it is possible to take normal matter a... read more

There are certainly many particle processes by which energy can turn into mass and vice versa (E = mc^2) - Jay Wacker mentioned some possibilities involving dark matter in his answer. However, there's no need to invoke any such process to explain relativistic mass increase. read more

So lets start with matter into energy, that's pretty easy, basically in nuclear reactions some mass is converted into energy. Nuclear power plants and bombs both in their own ways convert mass to energy. Energy into Matter is quite a bit harder, and only recently have experiments been devised to actual try to turn energy into matter. read more
