Can you hand crank a car alternator to power other supplies?

Best Answers

You can hand crank it. It has internal diodes to convert AC to DC. You need to turn it at least fast enough for it to generate enough voltage to overcome the forward voltage drop of the diodes. read more

Cranking an alternator by hand, given a sutible cranking handle and appropriate gearing, you’d generate possibly 50W in, which would give you 30W out. Enough to power a small light bulb, but after a few minutes your arm would feel like it was going to fall off. read more
