All PS3s can play PS1 games Only the original PS3 can play all PS2 games. The 80 gig had limited backwards capabilities for PS2 games. None of the other versions can play PS2 game unless they download them from the classics. read more

No you cant play all ps1 and ps2 games on the ps3, though a lot of titles are compatible. This applies only to the 60gb ps3, not the 40gb version due to be released soon. As for the latter, my friend bought both at launch, we had fun on the wii for about a few weeks, since then its been sitting there unused and we play online on the ps3. read more

All Ps3's can play PS1 games. But only 60 and 80 gig with 4 USB ports can play PS2 games. The 40, new 80 with 2 USB ports, and 160 gigs can't play any ps2 games. read more
