The candy called "licorice" is made from sugar and gelatin, and possibly actual licorice root (and possibly not, since it's just as likely to have come from a vat, but traditionally it was made with actual licorice root extract.) There's no horse blood anywhere in it. I'm unable to find much call for horse blood. read more
Hi Alex. Esther is right. The best licorice is the kind you like best. The traditional flavors are black licorice with an anise flavor and red licorice with a strawberry flavor. Black licorice also comes in a sweet variety and a salty variety. Some licorice is soft, while others are a little harder and more chewy. read more
