Could grey wolves survive in Africa?

Indian grey wolves, Canis lupus pallipes, would probably be OK. They have learnt to avoid tigers and Asian elephants, so prides of lions and herds of African elephants wouldn't be a huge issue. The heat would also not be such a problem for a wolf that can survive Indian summer heat. read more

So really, the only scenario I can think of in which grey wolves would actually survive in Africa would be for them to associate closely with human settlements where they’d eat garbage and hybridise with feral dogs, such as is the case in Italy and Israel. These wolves would have a better chance at making it in Africa than wolves from, say, Alaska.
