Could humans move Ceres to give Mars a new moon?

Keeping Jeff's energy calculations in mind, I'll go out on a limb with a possible solution. You could put a very large parabolic reflector orbiting near the backside of Ceres, using the L2 Lagrange point, or a Statite orbit, or a closer conventional orbit. The first two would require some station-keeping, however. More on that. read more

Mars is 10.7% the mass of Earth, but Ceres’ mass is only 12.8% of the Moon’s. If Ceres could be maneuvered into a suitable orbit around Mars, it could potentially exert tidal forces comparable in strength to those exerted by the Moon on the Earth. read more
