Nazi rearmament of Germany included the development of nerve gas. In 1936 they developed Tabun, in 1938 they developed Serin gas, and in 1944 they developed a third nerve agent called GD or Soman. it is estimated that their stockpiles of Tabun and Sarin could be measured in tons. read more
If Germany begin gas attacks in the World War II, there was a chance that the Allies would also use it. Germany was not the only country which had access to this technology. Deploying the Gas I think this is the more likely reasons. Germany had stockpiles of gas left over from WWI. read more
