Could the Spanish have won the Spanish-American War?

You could certainly build a scenario that has Spain winning the war, but in reality, it would be a long shot at best. That said, many nations, especially those in Europe, were shocked that the United States won the war, especially in the quick fashion that they did. read more

During the Spanish American war, I think Spain could not possibly have defeated America in open battle, at land or sea. Instead, they could have made the American occupation of Spanish territories difficult with propaganda portraying the Americans as evil. read more
