Could you cook a meal with radio waves?

As other point out, you obviously can and probably do it, with microwaves, i.e. GHz range radio waves. I suspect however, that you were interested in lower frequency radio waves, those used in terrestrial radio an TV broadcasts. Well, in principle you could, water does absorb those frequencies as well. read more

Actually, Radio waves have a lower frequencies and longer wavelength than microwaves do. As we know that small frequency means smaller energy too. However, we have indeed in the atmosphere a lot of radio waves conquering their way, so it can't cook the food on its own. read more

Yes, at least theoretically. Radio waves can induce a current in a coil, which will heat up a resistor. Anyway, you must live very close to a broadcasting station so that you can probably boil an egg with radio waves. read more

The radio waves cannot get out of the oven and deposit much of their energy in the food. I haven't done the calculation but gamma rays interact less strongly with matter and couldn't cook the food efficiently. They also can create undesired chemical changes in the food. read more
