Yes, he did. In 1832 he seriously considered the prospect of emigrating to the United States, as a number of his Polish compatriots-in-exile had already done. Still a very young and idealistic man, Chopin had just come to Paris at this time, and things were not (yet) going very well. read more

The Nocturne, Field's invention, was taken up in a big way by Chopin, whilst Liszt edited many of them. Field never reciprocated the admiration that Chopin gave his works, but Field was almost 30 years older.
