Mozart's antipathy for the flute is well attested, but he wrote both concertos and quartets for the instrument, so I don't think it was any dislike of the cello on his part. My final recommendation would be to listen to the so-called "Haydn" quartets, a set of six string quartets dedicated to Joseph Haydn, not simply for the glorious cello parts, but the whole ensemble into which those parts fit. read more
